The Story Bridge is a cantilever bridge that spans the Brisbane River. Construction began in 1935 and completed in 1939 as a public works project during the depression. It is traversed by the Bradfield Highway, Australia’s shortest highway. The bridge is named for John Douglas Story, a prominent public servant who worked on establishing the University of Queensland.
